The section Toxicology is one of the stakeholders in the Wageningen Institute of Environment and Climate Research (WIMEK). WIMEK has received accreditation as partner in the graduate school Socio-economic and Natural Sciences of the Environment, SENSE, a joint venture of the environmental research institutes of five Dutch universities. Toxicology also participates in the Graduate School Food Technology, Agrobiotechnology, Nutrition and Health Sciences (called VLAG according to the Dutch abbreviation).
The research programme of the section Toxicology covers several disciplinary aspects of toxicology. It concentrates on gaining insight in the mechanisms via which toxic compounds can induce adverse effects on the health of humans and other organisms, either directly via food or indirectly via diffuse environmental pollution.
